About Brixham

Brixham is a historic fishing port on the south coast of Devon.

Notable claims to fame include having been one of the busiest fishing ports in the country during the Victorian era, and having been the landing place of William of Orange ( later King William III). It would appear that Brixham was occupied even in prehistoric times, with discoveries during the 20th Century, in caves (not open to the public). Later, Roman coins from Vespasian's era were found on the headland Berry Head (now a nature reserve). Brixham (under its old name Briseham) also appears in the Domesday Book, when its population was then 39.

Nowadays, visitors to Brixham will find themselves in a friendly fishing town filled with history, local shops, and community events. As one of the towns of the English Riviera, Brixham sees a large influx of visitors each summer, tourism now being one of the towns major industries.
